About Support Funds
We understand the impact financial barriers can have on a student’s overall well-being. Student Care and Outreach (SCO) serves as the starting point for connecting students with individualized support and resources, which includes applying to available funding for emergency and/or temporary financial assistance.

Process
Request support funding by clicking here.
Select “Request for Support Funds”
Please provide as much information as possible. This will assist our office in providing you with the most comprehensive network of support and resources. Please note that someone from SCO may be in touch with you to gather additional information as needed.
Once we have received your request, SCO will work with the Office of Student Financial Aid (OSFA) to determine your eligibility for funding.
Support fund requests are evaluated by the Director of Student Care and Outreach and other appropriate staff from the unit on a weekly basis.
You will receive a decision regarding any available and applicable funding via your UGA email. This communication may take 5-7 business days from the initial date that the support fund request was submitted.
Awards will be disbursed directly to your student account within 5 business days of notifying you of the award that was approved. If you do not have an account balance, the reimbursement will be sent to you either via direct deposit or check, depending on which you set up with Student Accounts.
Please contact our office at sco@uga.edu or 706-542-8479 with any questions.
The entire process may take up to 10 days. If you need to expedite a request, please make note of that in your initial request.
Eligibility
Funding is not intended for tuition and fees, or to replace funding related to an assistantship. Support funds are intended to address specific temporary circumstances students may be facing such as:
Medical bills
Replacement of essential personal belonging due to natural disaster, fire, theft, etc.
Car repairs
Personal safety needs (e.g. changing a lock)
Medications or other health-related costs
Mental health care
Rent, utilities, or other essential household expenses
Please note that all requests will not be approved. Due to the limited nature of funding, some requests may only be approved for a portion of the total amount requested.
Generally, students are eligible for one award per year.
If you believe you are experiencing extenuating circumstances, we encourage you to connect directly with our office at sco@uga.edu or 706-542-8479.
If students are in need of more long-term financial support, or if the student’s circumstances may be ongoing, SCO encourages them to consult with the Office of Student Financial Aid (OSFA) to discuss their situation. Changes to students’ financial circumstances may qualify for a reconsideration of their current financial aid package at UGA.
